Belarus Trade Minister takes no notice of January’s price hike in Minsk


Belarusian Trade Minister Uladzimir Kaltovich ‘failed’ to notice a sharp rise in food prices in January.

One should not expect a price leap, the official told TV channel ‘Belarus 1’.

“We have travelled a long way towards the present-day system, we took balanced decisions on the liberalization of pricing formation in a stepwise fashion. Since January prices are not regulated either by manufacturers or the sellers,” said the minister.

According to him, in January, prices for manufactured goods and food products advanced only slightly.

However, as observed by Belsat TV, in January some products went up in price by as much as 50% if you take into consideration prices in Minsk shops, not official statistic data. Watch more in our video (in Belarusian):
