Belarus population in decline over last 20 years


According to the latest demographic data, published by the National Statistics Committee, in 115 of the 118 regional centers of the country, the number of residents has been continually decreasing.

Positive demographic dynamics is observed only in Mazyr, Minsk and Dzerzhynsk district.

Despite the recent growth of population in all regional centers and the capital, in total, all the oblasts have lost more than 100 thousand people.

Vitsebsk has been a leader in depopulation, where in the last 20 years the number of residents decreased by 216,000 people. According to the National Statistics Committee, at the beginning of the year, Belarus had 9.504 million people. As follows from the research of independent economists, about 1 million Belarusians work abroad, the majority of migrants found work in Russia.
