Belarus Information Ministry blocks independent news website

The Information Ministry has decided to limit access to news website belaruspartisan.org (Belarusian Partisan).

“The decision taken has been based on the results of the monitoring of the website – it discovered repeated breaches of the law on media. Content containing prohibited information regularly appears on the above news resource located outside of the national segment of the Internet,” the ministry said.

However, the ministry fails to specify what ‘prohibited information’ is the case.

The agency also points out that ‘all subjects of the information sphere’, including representatives of foreign mass media accredited in the Republic of Belarus must keep within the mass media law.

Belaruspartisan.org was launched in 2005. Famous Belarusian journalist Pavel Sheremet, who was killed in 2016 in Ukraine, was one of his creators and architects. BP is considered one of the most popular social and political news resources in Belarus. Lately, about 2 mln users have visited belaruspartisan.org month by month.

Belsat.eu stands in solidarity with fellow journalists and hopes for the best.
