The “Belarusian World” program, featuring a family of Belarusian athletes, ranked 10th in the short forms category. The competition received 1,830 entries from 130 countries.

Volha Voranava’s reportage about Belarusian athletes was well-received by the jury. Voranava tells the story of the silver medalist of the Olympic Games in Beijing in the decathlon Andrei Krauchanka and the heptathlete Yana Maksimava. Following the rigged presidential elections in 2020, the couple opted against the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka. They were forced to leave the country as a consequence.

The author expresses her happiness regarding the success of her reportage, which is a part of the “Belarusian World” series that focuses on Belarusians residing outside the country.

These are the stories of people who had to leave. They are usually very painful. Andrei and Yana are courageous individuals who maintain hope that Belarus will transform for the better, and this belief enables them to persevere through difficult circumstances. Now they are in Germany. Their life will continue to improve in their new location. My fellow citizens are very talented. They are valued everywhere except in their homeland, says Voranava.

AIPS Sport Media Awards is the most important international award for sports journalists.
