Journalist Ales Dashchynski detained after search

Ales Dashchynski became unavailable on 16 July. The journalist’s relatives said that law enforcement officers came to arrest him in his village house, took him to Minsk apartment for a search, and then detained him, writes Radio Liberty.

The FID employees found Ales Dashchynski in his house in the village in the Pastavy district. The journalist was taken to his apartment in Minsk; they searched there. According to Ales’ relatives, the house was searched by four officers. They showed a warrant of 15 July, but it was not specified who authorized it and on what grounds the search was carried out. A laptop, a phone, a computer hard drive, flash drives, and a bank card were seized from Dashchynski.

When the journalist was being led out of the apartment after the search, he managed to say to his wife: “Everything will be alright.” Now he is probably in the Akrestsina street jail.

Last year in October, Ales Dashchynski was deprived of his accreditation as a correspondent of Radio Liberty.
