Detained because of postcards

Human rights defenders Tatsiana Raviaka and Uladz Labkovich were handing out postcards with a depiction of Ales Bialiatski, Vice President of FIDH and imprisoned head of human rights centre Viasna.

They started at 12:00. Soon after they were taken to Savetski district directorate of Interior. The policemen are drawing up protocols for alleged violation of the law on mass events. According to human rights centre Viasna, trials is to begin today at 16:00.

Yestarday a similar action of solidarity was held by activists in Mahiliou, one of them, 21-year Dziyana Burakova, was detained. She had to spend two hours at a police station where she was questioned about “those people who gragged her into opposition”. After drawing up a protocol for handing out “antipolitical”(?) postcards police officers released the girl.

Fortunately, there were no arrests in Homel. Human rights defender Anatol Paplauny distributed hundreds of postcards conveying information about Ales Bialiatski in busy streets of the regional centre.

The International day of Solidarity with Civil Society of Belarus is celebrated on August 4 since 2012. It is coincided with the date of Bialiatski’s arrest.
