Political prisoner and blogger Tsyhanovich charged


Syarhei Tsikhanouski, Ihar Losik, Mikalay Statkevich, Uladzimir Tsyhanovich, Artsyom Sokau, and Dzmitry Papou are still on trial in Homiel pre-trial detention center. The political prisoners are accused of organizing mass riots, committing gross violations of public order, and inciting social hatred in Belarus during the preparation and holding of the presidential elections in 2020. All defendants in the case had been detained before the election, writes the human rights center Viasna.

The author of the Youtube channel “MozgON,” Uladzimir Tsyhanovich, is accused of organizing mass riots and inciting social hatred. The blogger faces up to 12 years in jail.

The prosecution believes that the bloggers united and, through the Internet, urged people to participate in mass riots.

“…By his deliberate actions, Tsyhanovich V. V. committed the organization of mass riots accompanied with violence to persons, pogroms, arson, destruction of property or armed resistance to representatives of the authorities, i.e. a crime under Part 1 Article 293 of the Criminal Code.”

According to the prosecution, the blogger was involved in the propaganda of legitimization of law violations.
