Detained journalist Andrzej Poczobut charged


Journalist Andrzej Poczobut was charged with fomenting racial, national, religious and other social hatred or discord under Article 130 of the Criminal Code.

Under this article, he could face from 5 to 12 years in prison.

Andrzej Poczobut was detained in a criminal case for incitement of hatred, which was brought against the leader of the unregistered Union of Poles in Belarus, Andżelika Borys, and other members of the organization.

In the morning of March 25th, about eight people came to Andrzej’s apartment to search it. The law enforcers took all equipment, two laptops and hard drives, as well as seven old phones. They also confiscated badges from conferences, literature in Polish, all Polish-language documents, including his daughter’s papers and awards from GrandPress.

Then the journalist was taken from Hrodna to Minsk to the Central Office of the Investigative Committee, where he was questioned.

Now Andrzej is in pre-trial detention center No. 1 on Valadarski street in Minsk.
