Russian war crimes investigated in The Hague

According to Prosecutor General of Ukraine Iryna Venediktova, the International Criminal Court in The Hague has already started investigating war crimes of the Russian Federation.

“The prosecution process has begun. They naively believe that they are in a comfort zone and think that they will be covered by their military or political functionaries. It is nonsense. They simply do not know the law very well and have not studied the practice,” said Iryna Venediktova.

According to her, consultations with international partners are already underway to ensure that Russian criminals are detained while attempting to cross the borders of civilized countries.

“This is how it will be. We will bend over backwards, but we will arrest them. We have already accomplished a lot in a relatively short period of time,” the Prosecutor General of Ukraine said in her statement.

According to Venediktova, the International Criminal Court is important for Ukraine because it ensures the accountability of concrete individuals and not the state. That is, both the president and officials will be held accountable to the law. Even if they try to escape, the International Criminal Court can issue warrants for their detention in other countries.

“Every missile fired by Putin’s generals at Kyiv, Kharkiv, Akhtyrka, Vasylkiv, Chernihiv, Kherson, Mariupol, Mykolaiv, Sumy is your sentence. You know about your crimes, we know about your crimes, the whole civilized world knows about your crimes!” added Iryna Venediktova.
