Tsikhanouskaya in Warsaw. Meetings with the Polish authorities and an appeal to support Belsat
The leader of the Belarusian democratic forces, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya, was on a three-day visit to Warsaw.
– Thank you for everything you have done for us and what you will do in the future. Thank you for supporting us internationally. Thank you for supporting our civil society and media – the Belarusian leader said for welcoming tens of thousands of Belarusians to Poland.
Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that Belarus and Poland have common values and a shared future. According to her, the Belarusians consider themselves part of the European Union and see Poland’s support and experience as an excellent example. She admitted that Belarus is currently facing difficult times and highlighted that it cannot survive without Poland’s solidarity and support:
– There are thousands of people in prison, including our hero, Andrzej Poczobut. We also need to increase pressure on the regime to release everyone.
The Chairwoman of the United Transitional Cabinet expressed her hope that following the meetings held in Warsaw, parliamentary groups for Democratic Belarus would be established in the Polish Parliament. Furthermore, she proposed initiating a comprehensive resolution on Belarus, which would approve the European choice of Belarus, call for tightening sanctions against the regime of Alyaksandr Lukashenka, and hold it accountable.
Tsikhanouskaya also stressed that the resolution should include a call to support Belarusian independent media, including Belsat TV.
At the beginning of her visit, Svyatlana Tsikhanouskaya awarded Belsat. Director Agnieszka Romaszewska-Guzy and Deputy Director Aleksy Dzikawicki received “Badges of Honor of Democratic Forces” from her. Tsikhanouskaya emphasized that she hopes for the development of Belsat “because it plays an important role in Belarus.” She also assured that she would do everything to support the channel.
During her stay in Warsaw, the leader of the Belarusian democratic forces met, among others, with President Andrzej Duda, Speaker of the Parliament Szymon Hołownia, Speaker of the Senate Małgorzata Kidawa-Błońska, Minister of Foreign Affairs Radosław Sikorski, as well as, in the Belweder Palace, with representatives of Belarusian emigration.
