Video marathon of solidarity with Belsat TV starts in Minsk

A flashmob called “Make video for Belsat” was held on December 22 in the Trinity suburb in Minsk. Politicians, human rights activists, journalists, writers – dozens of people came to show their solidarity with the channel.

“The contribution of Belsat to the development of the Belarusian national identity is inestimable,” politician Mikalai Statkevich said.

“In my opinion, the nine-year work of Belsat TV is very interesting and important page of Belarus’s recent history, the history, which Belsat not only showed in its information and analytical programs – the channel has been creating this history itself,” Belarusian writer and historian Uladzimir Arlou believes.

“Belsat TV has become a true platform on which every citizen can view their opinion,” Belarusian MP Alena Anisim stresses.

On December 18, Witold Wazczykowski, Minister of Foreign Affairs of Poland, voiced the ministry’s plans of Belsat TV transition to a web mode and its journalists’ transfer to TVP Polonia.

The public figures and politicians are calling on Belarusians to sign the petition to keep Belsat TV from falling apart. The appeal to to Poland’s President Andrzej Duda and Prime Minister Beata Szydło appeared on the website Change.org. By the moment, over 3,000 persons have signed it.

“Belsat TV is an alternative inside the country. It is free information, it is free people, who are eager to make life in the country better,” says Syarhei Filimonau, the legendary author of the popular TV show “Vidzmo-nevidzmo” (Thick On The Ground).

“Belsat always pays much attention to the human rights situation in Belarus. Such promotion is very important to us human rights activists,” says Tatsyana Ravyaka, a representative of HRC Viasna.

“People living in regions like Belsat very much; it is very close to ordinary citizens, I would call it ‘people’s TV channel,” explains ex-presidential candidate Tatsyana Karatkevich.

The marathon of solidarity is in progress on the Internet, and everyone who would like to can join the campaign. Make a video, publish it on social networks with #белсатжыві #ocalicbelsat and send us the link by email belsat.eu@gmail.com or through social networks.
