Minsk: Former political prisoner $600 fined

A court in Minsk imposed BYN 1,150 fine ($600) on Zmitser Dashkevich, a former political prisoner and the leader of Young Front, for ‘disobedience to lawful demands of a police officer’.

According to the activist, he was detained on December 31 at 23:30. On New Year’s Eve, Dashkevich invited Belarusians to come to October Square with national white-red-white flags and celebrate the ocassion.

Detaining Dashkevich, policemen Maksimau and Panasenka failed to show their documents the confiscation of property and attacked his car, the activist stated. Later, they appeared in court as witnesses and said that Dashkevich had refused to follow them to a police station and kept sitting down onto the ground.

However, a video of the arrest proves otherwise:

On January 25, Minsk enforcement agents seized Zmitser Dashkevich’s car on account of unpaid fines. A few days later, an anonymous man donated $ 2,000 so that the activist could be able to get the confiscated car back.
