Ukraine imposes ban on retransmitting Russian TV Dozhd over disrespect for sovereignty

The National Radio and TV Council (NRTC) has obliged Ukrainian broadcasters to cease retransmitting Russian TV Channel Dozhd (Rain) within a month as the station failed to recognize Ukraine’s sovereignty and territorial integrity.

“The channel’s broadcasts showed the administrative border between Ukraine’s Kherson region and Ukraine’s Autonomous Republic of Crimea as the border between Ukraine and the Russian Federation,” NRTC member Serhiy Kostynsky said.

According to Kostynsky, in 2016 there were several violations of Ukrainian law committed by Dozhd. In particular. its journalists visited Crimea which was annexed by Russia 2014.

NRTC banned broadcasting of about 35 Russian TV stations for violations in the fields of national security and advertising regulations.
