Belarusian swimmer wins another gold at Paralympics


Ihar Bokiy has won his fifth medal in the 50m freestyle swimming in ‘S13’ category. Earlier, he got three gold medals and one bronze medal, another bronze was gained by the javelin thrower Alyaksandr Tryputs.

The Belarusian athlete’s performance was 23.44 seconds, which is very close to the world record among Paralympians (23.2 sec). This record was set by Bokiy at the World Championships in Glasgow in 2015.

In the course of the 2016 Paralympics Bokiy covered the distance of 100 meters butterfly with a record time (53.85 seconds) and also became the best in the 200m medley swimming and the 400m free style.

The Belarusian team is now taking the 15th place in the medal standings (6 gold and 2 bronze medals).

On Septemder 14, swimmer Uladzimir Izotau won the gold medal at the Paralympic Games 2016 in Rio, becoming swimming champion in the 100m breaststroke in ‘SB12’ category. A few hours before Izotau’s performance, Belarusian team received another gold by a wheelchair fencer Andrey Pranevich.
