Prosecutor General: Criminals trying to pass themselves off as victims of political pressure

Alyaksandr Kanyuk speaks about dangerous trend in the crime world.

“In recent years, unfortunately, there appeared a dangerous trend in Belarus. I mean the quasi protection of human rights. It is enough for a criminal, who has been absolutely objectively and impartially convicted, to declare that he is persecuted for political reasons, he immediately finds refuge in the West,” said the prosecutor general of Belarus during a speech in Moscow, interfax.by reports.

Belarusian law enforcement agencies and government officials believe that there no people with politically motivated sentences in Belarusian prisons. The authorities do not agree with the fact that in Belarus there are political prisoners and those who received a politically motivated sentence.

It should be noted that the past five years in Belarus saw a reduction of crimes: in 2010 – 140,920, in 2014 – 93,932. But if you look deeper into statistics, the situation is not so optimistic.
