Police detain journalists over investigation of African swine fever

Kanstantsin Zhukouski and Natallya Kryvashey were filming a story about the outbreak of swine fever in the Rechitsa district. When the local authorities found out about the presence of journalists, the prosecutor’s office and the traffic police acted promtly. The journalists were stopped on the village road.

“We suspect that there has been an outbreak of swine fever in the area, but the authorities strongly want to hush this thing up. Locals buried the dead swine, and when the villagers saw the journalists, they immediately called the traffic police and informed them of our car number plates. The local officials want to prevent us from working in every possible, and the police officers demand that we give up flash cards with the videos,” journalist Kanstantsin Zhukouski told Belsat.

The traffic police stopped our colleagues on a rural road, and “checked the documents” for more than an hour.
