Petrol stations banned from accepting foreign currency following tour operators

Foreigners can refuel in Belarus using rubles only starting March 2.

The Council of Ministers and the National Bank have cancelled the resolution of June 20, 2011, which let foreigners pay for fuel only in dollars, euros or Russian rubles. Now all operations should occur in the Belarusian currency.

In late January, the National Bank said it wanted to reduce the foreign currency use in Belarus and ‘boost the credibility of the national currency by the end of February’. On March 1, travel and insurance companies were banned from using foreign currency in their operatins. The change will not affect the use of currency in duty-free shops, BelTA reports.
