Savchenko goes on hunger strike again

The deputy of Ukraine’s Verkhovna Rada Nadiya Savchenko said she was starting a hunger strike demanding the release of Ukrainian prisoners kept in Russia and Donbas, BBC reports.

“I have tried a lot of methods of struggle for guys like me who fought for peace. Now I will fight for them like I did for myself,” said Savchenko during a press conference in Kyiv.

Savchenko intends to protest in response to the “inaction of the authorities all over the world”, and the hunger strike will continue “until the day of a positive result.”

“I suggested to the President real actions for the exchange of prisoners: you need to start giving people first. But children of Petro [Poroshenko] are not in captivity, and he does not care about your children,” said Savchenko.

Two months ago Nadiya Savchenko returned to Ukraine after nearly two years of detention in a Russian prison. In Russia, she was accused of involvement in the death of Russian journalist and sentenced to 22 years in prison. On May 25, 2016 she was pardoned and returned to her homeland.
