Nyaklyayeu reacts to Lukashenka's words about dialogue

The 2010 presidential candidate, poet Uladzimir Nyaklyayeu has responded to the Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s words about the absence of fear to talk to him.

On August 4, in an interview to three non-state media (Euroradio, Radio Liberty, tut.by) Lukashenka said he was not afraid of debate with the opposition. “Give me a name … What am I going to talk to them about? Kebich was prime minister, and he was graceful about debates with Lukashenka. What do I talk with Nyaklyayeu? I’m not afraid to sit down with him and discuss things,” he said.

“In general, it is not that there is nothing to talk about — it is pointless, said Mr Nyaklyayeu to BelaPAN. The result of the conversation should be indicated in action, while Lukashenka’s conversation and actions stand separately. As the flies and cutlets. He can speak of freedom, democracy, and in actions tighten the screws so that nobody would talk of the Freedom and democracy.”

At the same time Nyaklyaeu suggested “for a start” to complete the “two unfinished conversations.” “The first one is from 1998 about the Belarusian language, culture and history. Generally about national consciousness, national dignity, without which the there could be no full-fledged state, no saving of independent Belarus. He said: “Yes, yes, but later…” Later, based on the results of the conversation, I was forced to leave the country,” said Nyaklyaeu.

“The second one is an unfinished 2010 talk on the urgent, immediate need for political and economic reforms. As a result of this conversation, I ended up in prison and I was almost killed. What for? Why? Who gave the order to the special forces to attack me? Lukashenka? What then do we have to talk about?” said the politician.

However, according to Mr Nyaklyayeu, who announced the creation of the For the Statehood and Independence of Belarus movement, now the most important topic of conversation is “How to save the country, our state, independence? This is the most difficult, the most serious problem. Is Lukashenka so cool that he would solve it on his own? The army at his command would die for Belarus? Internal troops? KGB? Certainly not … Ukraine had the army and interior troops and KGB. And even the fleet. Who protected the country? The people did! The people, the citizens of Ukraine, for whom it was native, their blood – something sacred, for what they could sacrifice anything…”

“So I would ask Lukashenka: would he enroll as a volunteer in the social movement For the State and Independence of Belarus? Would he join the people who are ready to sacrifice anything in the name of saving the country? If he agreed, then we could continue the conversation…” suggested Mr Nyaklyayeu.
