Lyabedzka seeks election support, offers public voice in return

Boycotting the presidential election is inefficient and unproductive, Anatol Lyabedzka said at the press-conference in the United Civil Party office.

The meeting was marked by an appeal to the voters with the proposal of a public voice through a status of the presidential candidate’s trustee in exchange for four thousand signatures collected in support of Anatol Lyabedzka.

Anatol Lyabedzka, chairman of the United Civil Party:

“Trustee – is a person able to do something usually prohibited. For a whole month.”

The UCP leader is going to the polls with an anti-corruption platform and economic program called “One million new jobs.” One of the reason to participate in the elections, which are likely to bring another elegant victory to Alyaksandr Lukashenka, is to fix the violations of the electoral process.

The other day, it became known that the 5th presidential elections in Belarus can take place ahead of schedule, in October. For the current head of state it is a safety net in the event of deteriorating economic conditions. For the opposition – a complication by reduced time to work with the community.

Anatol Lyabedzka, Chairman of the United Civil Party:

“It is more difficult, of course, to collect signatures in the summer. And, of course, our potential electorate, is more likely to travel, to be on summer vacations. But, if we need them, we’ll find them in Vilnius.”

Despite the positive rhetoric, the victory of the opposition candidate still looks like something out of a sci-fi movie. One of the main problems of the Belarusian opposition remains the inability to unite and elect a single candidate for the potential presidency.
