Lukashenka's nominating group submits application to CEC

Alyaksandr Lukashenka’s nominating group includes about 10.5 thousand people. The headquarters are headed by the chairman of the Trade Unions Federation of Belarus Mikhail Orda.

In the 2010 elections, Lukashenka’s nominating group was headed by Alyaksandr Radzkou who then served as Minister of Education. The group then included 8,403 people.

The 60-year-old Alyaksandr Lukashenka will be running for presidency for the fifth time.

The first time Alyaksandr Lukashenka publicly expressed his intention to participate in the 2015 elections was last fall. At a press conference for Russian media on October 17 in Minsk, he said: “Today, if the elections were tomorrow, I would take part, he said. I do not knopw what will happen in a year, but, honestly, I hope that the world does not change and Belarus will not turn up somewhere at the bottom. If everything is fine and I am healthy, I have no reason to give up on the campaign.”

Noting that he had been in power for 21 years, Mr Lukashenka said: “People are already tired of me, and it is a fact. If they do not vote, it will be an opportunity to live a quiet life. If I am as healthy as I am today, then I will live a long life. I’ll take care of some business, perhaps even rest, if I can.”
