Lukashenka praises Belarus delegation for showing Russian flag at Paralympics opening

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has approved of the Belarusian team member’s displaying the Russian flag at the opening ceremony of the 2016 Paralympic Games in Rio de Janeiro, presidential spokeswoman Natallya Eysmant told the radio station ‘Govorit Moskva’ on Thursday.

“Carrying the flag into the opening ceremony is the initiative of the Belarusian delegation. However, it is critical to underscore that it is the position of our state, the President and the President of our Paralympic Committee. We arestanding in solidarity with the Russian Paralympic athletes,” she said.

Russia was banned from competing in the 2016 Paralympic Games due to the doping scandal. The report on Russia’s state-sponsored programme of cheating made by WADA for the World Anti-Doping Agency was taken into account.
