Lukashenka falls into old habits: Where is oil, gold and natural gas?

Alyaksandr Lukashenka has demanded that minerals searching efforts be intensified in Belarus. The Head of State said that on July 30 during a meeting with the Minister of Natural Resources and Environmental Protection Andrei Kaukhuta.

“I simply cannot believe that we do not have large amounts of oil and that the depths of our land lack natural gas, said Alyaksandr Lukashenka. In similar areas in Russia and other countries, there are mined a lot of oil and natural gas, as well as precious metals – something that forms the basis of well-being and stability of any economy of any state,” said Lukashenka.

The last time Lukashenka mentioned the Belarusian deposits of oil and gas was in 2011, during the annual address to the nation.

“I suspect that it is not that we know very little about what we have out there, though, we do know something, I suspect that we are not acting enough to see what we have there. It seems to me that after all we do have oil somewhere. But if there is oil, it seems to me, we must have natural gas as well. I hope. And, of course, I have been urging all the professionals in recent years to check what we have there. We also took an academic PM to the government. … It cannot be that the person looked for something but could not find it. We’ll find something,” promised the head of Belarus.
