Lightbulbs from 'Belarussia' sold in Belarusian stores

Bulbs made at Brest Electrotechnical Plant are sold with the Russian barcode and the word “Belarussia”. Belarusian manufacturer says it is not responsible.

The Belarusian shops are selling light bulbs produced by a Russian company ‘Camelion’ produced at the Brest Electric Plant.

When the journalist of “Belsat” called the company to get a comment, the factory initially denied that it is their products.

“It says Belarussia? It cannot be ours,” said a surprised voice in the department of product quality.

Only after the images of light bulbs; packages were sent to the factory, head of marketing department of the Brest Electric Bulb Factory Mikalai Kruk admitted:

– Yes, this product is really made by us. However, it is made for the Russian market. We have a contract with Russia for the production of 2 million light bulbs per month, we don’t track where they then sell them later.

But the packaging says ‘Belarussia’ instead of Belarus. How do you comment on this?

– Packaging layout also comes from Russia, what can we do here? We do as required by the customer. You must have noticed that our product brand “Belsvet” puts the name the Republic of Belarus and the Belarusian barcode on its products.

Note that if you go to the official website of the Brest Electric Bulb Factory, it does not yet have the name of our country, you can see there both ‘Belarus’ and ‘Belarussia’. In addition, there is no trace of Belarusian language on the site.
