Hunt for journos in progress: Belsat TV crew called to police

Belsat TV cameraman has been called to the police over his recent covering a non-parasite rally in the Belarusian town of Barysau.

“On March 27, I was contacted by officers from Barysau police department. They asked me to come as they wanted to draw a protocol upon me. They also promised to get me summonsed to court,” Kavaliou says.

According to law enforcers, the cameraman violated Art. 22.9 of the Administrative Code by his filming (illegal production of media products).

“It was clear that the police major was uncomfortable with tackling the situation and he wanted to get rid of me,” he stresses.

Kavaliou’s workmate, journalist Volha Czajczyc, will also have to stand trial over the same case. On March 18, they were livestreaming a ‘non-parasite’ protest rally in the town. They were detained during the live broadcast.
