Azerbaijani leader Ilham Aliyev awards Heydar Aliyev Order to wife Mehriban Aliyeva
‘State is Me!’ in the Azerbaijani style.
Azerbaijani president Ilham Aliyev has given the highest state award to his spouse Mehriban Aliyeva. It is the Order of Heydar Aliyev, his father and predecessor, who died in 2003.
Mehriban Aliyeva was awarded for her ‘active work for the development of culture, education, health and sport in the Repbulblic of Azerbaijan, for promoting cultural heritage of the Azerbaijani nation in the international arena and a great contribution to organizing the first European Games’.
The Games were held in Baku on 12 – 29 June. Mehriban Aliyeva headed the organizing committee.
Earlier, the presidential spouse received the Russian order ‘For Merits to Astrakhan Region’, Pakistan’s Hilal-e Pakistan, France’s Legion of Honour and Poland’s Order of Merit.
