Activists detained for 'Freedom to Yury Rubtsou' banner

Activists Maxim Vinyarski, Leanid Kulakou, Syarhei Matskoit have been detained near the Hippo store in Minsk.

The activists were arrested at about 9 pm on June 19 while trying to hang a banner “Freedom to Yury Rubtsou,” human rights activist Maryia Kastsyan told Radio Liberty reporter.

At first they were taken to the Pershamaiski Rayon Police Department, and now they are in a detention center in Minsk district police on 20 Skaryna street. It is expected that the activists will be put to trial in Minsk rayon court on Monday.

The activists are accused of disorderly conduct.

Yury Rubtsou was sentenced to 2 years of imprisonment in the colony after he refused to work for low wages while in special labor camp and made a tattoo on his chest, saying “Lukashenka, go away.” Currently, Mr Rubtsou is in a temporary detention facility in Baranavichy. He got into this special labor camp for insulting the judge who conducted the trial, despite the fact that Mr Rubtsou was brought to it without clothing.
