The EU Foreign Affairs Council has emphasized the need of releasing and exonerating all the political prisoners. Only after that might the dialogue with Belarus become possible, Maja Kocijančić, press secretary of EU High Representative for Foreign Affairs and Security Policy Catherine Ashton, pointed out.
«I call the Belarusian authorities to immediately release all the political prisoners and lift all restrictions to realization of civil and political rights,» the press secretary said. According to her, taking these measures is certain to improve relations between the EU an Belarus.
Maryna Adamovich, the wife of political prisoner Mikalai Statkevich, believes that it is the consolidated and strong stand of EU member countries that made possible the dismission of Andrey Sannikau and Zmitser Bandarenka.
«I would like to say again Mikalai Statkevich’s words: “it is not point in offering money for our release”. If the European Union “buys” political prisoners there will new imprisoned people soon. It was the last thing he said in court and I share his opinion,» Maryna Adamovich said.
