Minsk Truck Factory (MAZ) would have significantly improved its competitiveness by merging with KAMAZ – its Russian counterpart. “KAMAZ knows what can and needs to be done in the near future. KAMAZ has development plans, including cooperation with foreign partners. (…) KAMAZ already has great prospects in the international markets, and merger with MAZ will only help.” – said Mr. Putin.
He also made it clear that “the ball is in the Belarusian court now” and the Russian side is awaiting for the prime minister Myaskinovich to comment on the proposal.
Russia offered to create a holding through exchanging the two companies shares. According to experts, in practical terms it means that Belarus will give the company to Russia and will receive no money for privatizing MAZ.
