Last week the Belarusian President told the chairmen of regional executive committees that as the climatic parameters have changed gourds might be bred in the southern part of Belarus. Mr Lukashenka took pride in his growing melons and watermelons which are ‘not worse than Astrakhan’s’. ‘It turns out that one can grow watermelons in Belarus, even in Minsk, not in the south! In the south there is no problem at all. I’ve learnt it by my own experience,’ he said.
