Iryna Leushyna and Dzmitry Navazhylau face new charges


According to Radio Liberty, BelaPAN director Iryna Leushyna and former campaign manager Dzmitry Navazhylau face new charges of “creating an extremist formation” (Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code). Both of them have been kept in the Minsk pre-trial detention center since August 18.

They face up to 7 years in prison under Article 361-1 of the Criminal Code.

“Radio Liberty reports that media manager Andrei Alyaksandrau was also accused of “creating an extremist formation.”

On November 1, the BelaPAN agency was labeled an “extremist formation” by the KGB.

On August 18, Leushyna and Navazhylau were detained under Article 342 of the Criminal Code (“organization and preparation of actions that grossly violate public order or active participation in them”). But then they were charged under part 2 of article 243 of the Criminal Code – “Tax evasion resulting in large-scale damage.”

Andrei Alyaksandrau has been in jail since January 27, 2021. He was charged under Article 342, Article 243, and Article 356 (“State Treason”).
