Foreign Ministry: Negotiations with EU on visa facilitation launched


Belarus and the European Commission have started negotiations on visa facilitation and readmission agreements, the press office of the Belarusian ministry said in its report on Deputy Minister Alena Kupchyna’s January 29-30 visit to Brussels.

“The main focus of the visit was the official launch of negotiations between the Republic of Belarus and the European Commission on visa facilitation and readmission agreements,” the press office said.

According to the press office, Ms Kupchyna and Stefano Manservisi, director general of the European Commission’s Directorate-General for Home Affairs, discussed the modalities of the negotiations, i.e. how the negotiations should be conducted. The next round of the negotiations is to take place in Minsk in March, the press office said.

Ms Kupchyna had meetings with Stefan Fule, the European Union`s commissioner for enlargement and neighborhood policy, and Gunnar Wiegand, the European External Action Service’s director for Russia, the Eastern Partnership, Central Asia, Regional Cooperation and the OSCE.

Ms Kupchyna also had discussions with Jacek Protasiewicz, vice president of the European Parliament, and Filip Kaczmarek, chairperson of the European Parliament’s Delegation for Relations with Belarus.
