15 days of arrest for Freedom Day

Today participants of Freedom Day’s demonstration are to appear in court in Minsk. Yesterday 8 persons were detained after the rally came to its end.

They are charged with disobedience to policemen’ orders. According to the Belarusian Code of Administrative Procedure, this carries a punishment of up to 15 days of arrest.

There are three citizens of Ukraine among the detainees: representatives of National Alliance Yulya Hryshchyk, Yulya Slivinskaya and under-aged Nazar Zelinouski, human rights centre “Viasna”reports. According to human rights defenders, Anton Tsimokhau and two activists of European Belarus civil campaign – Aleh Rahouski and Mikita Kavaliou – are also to come to trial.
