Belsat TV has asked the residents of Homiel about the possibility of the ‘threat from the South’ that was voiced by the Belarusian Defense Ministry.
‘The Ukrainians get on very well. They live a better life than Belarusians. What for should they attack us?’ a man says.
Another resident of Homiel noted that ‘no Belarusian has ever had any claims against the Ukrainians, and vice versa.’
‘What for? The both nations have been lving together since the dawn of times.’
‘They will have no benefit from it. They won’t attack. They will be fighting against one another for a while, but then everything will be ok.’
It is to be recalled that the district headquarters of territorial defense has been recently established in Yelsk district which borders with Ukraine. The Belarusian Defense Ministry puts down such measures to a ‘growing threat to border security’ and states that they are testing the system of strengthening the protection of the state border in the southern direction.
