Who will be President? Minsk collecting signatures for presidential hopefuls


Another stage of the election campaign – collecting signatures in support of citizens offered for being nominated presidential candidates – has started in Belarus.

The citizens of the Republic of Belarus who have reached the age of 18 and have the right to vote can sign for several potential candidates.

The collection of signatures may be conducted in the form of picketing. Getting permission to organize a picket is not required if it is carried out in sites authorized by local authorities. Today signatures for several candidates were being collected on Independence Avenue in Minsk. A lot of people were willing to sign for the incumbent president Lukashenka and Tatsiana Karatkevich, a representative of coalition ‘People’s referendum’.

The collection of signatures for nomination of presidential candidates will last until August, 21. Nominating groups are to collect at least 100,000 signatures.

The fifth presidential elections will be held on October 11th.
