Verashchaka for Varsovian: Poles get acquainted with Belarusian cuisine

A food truck of ‘The Kitchen of Conflict’ stopped on the bank of the Vistula River in one of the most popular places in the center of Warsaw. Every week the team varies the menu; from Tuesday here reigns the Belarusian cuisine!

Alina Koushyk, a Belsat TV news presenter and food blogger, is proactively involved in the project.

Now there are Belarusian pancakes with various sauces, Russian solyanka and Polish kopytka on the menu. One can also treat oneself to bread kvass.

The legendary Verashchaka, which was known in Belarus, Lithuania and Poland as far back as the middle of the XVIII century, is a real zest: these days Belarusians are trying to take its taste back to Warsaw where it was often served at the court of King Augustus III.

Buckwheat and wheat pancakes with Verashchaka, which is sort of gravy with sausage, meat, onions and spices cooked in beer.

To quench thirst, one can order lemonade which Alina Koushyk prepares using lime and mint compote with honey.

As part of the Kitchen of Conflict, migrants and refugees living in Poland cook and offer ethnic foods to Poles. The authors of the idea are three young Polish entrepreneurs. Their social mission is to acquaint the lovers of good food with the culture and cuisine of other countries.
