UN Commissioner for Human Rights: 3,000 killed in eastern Ukraine


The organisation reports the death toll has reached 3,000 since the conflict in the east flared.

The United Nations has been monitoring the situation in Ukraine since mid-April, 2014. “We remain concerned about the situation in Ukraine. OHCHR’s latest monthly report gives a full picture of current human rights challenges, especially in the east, where at least 3000 people have been killed since mid- April this year,” Zeid Ra’ad Al Hussein, UN High Commissioner for Human Rights, said at the Human Rights Council 27th Session.

According to UN estimates, at least 2,593 people were killed in Ukraine between mid-April and 27 August 2014, some 6,000 got injured.

The conflict which some state consider as a full-scale war will be discussed at the UN Human Rights Council session on September, 23.
