Ukraine reports escalation of conflict in Donbas to UN Security Council

Ukraine has formally notified the UN Security Council president about attempts to escalate tensions in Donbas, says a report posted on the website of the Ukrainian Permanent Mission to the UN on Tuesday.

Despite the complete truce deal which was made at the latest meeting of the Contact Group, the number of armed provocations against Ukrainian servicemen stationed along the contact line continues to grow, the report said.

The aforementioned provocations are nullifying the efforts of Ukraine, and the international community, to restore peace and stability and ‘are actually making the implementation of political provisions of the peace settlement [agreement] impossible,’ it said.

In October, 177 states voted for recognising Ukraine a non-permanent member of the UN Security Council for 2016-17.
