Ukraine hopes for EU’s upping the sanctions against Russia, president Volodymyr Zelensky said at Monday’s meeting with Vice-President of the European Commission for Energy Union Maroš Šefčovič.
“Ratcheting up sanctions against the Russian Federation for the aggression is our truly great hope. I am hopeful that the pressure of sanctions on the part of the EU will be continued. It is very important for us – not on paper. This is vital for Ukraine and the people we lose in Donbas,” the press service quotes the Ukrainian leader.
Ukraine is set to continue cooperation with the European Union, Zelensky stressed. According to him, the country is ready to take ‘right and fair’ steps towards the EU.
On May 20, Volodymyr Zelensky was sworn in at the parliamentary ceremonial meeting. The Kremlin failed to extend greetings to the politician on the occasion of his getting into office.
In early May, Ukraine’s Foreign Minister Pavlo Klimkin urged the EU and the G7 countries to introduce new sanctions against Russia in response to its decision to give Russian passports to Ukrainian citizens living in occupied areas of Donetsk and Luhansk regions.
