Taxi driver sentenced to 3 years in prison for taking illegal immigrants to border

The Vorsha city court found 47-year-old taxi driver from Minsk guilty of facilitating illegal migration. The man will spend three years in the colony for taking two Asians to the Russian border.

The news came from the press service of the Belarus State Border Committee.

The taxi driver colluded with a former passenger of his, who was the organizer of illegal migration channel, to give foreigners a ride for money.

In March 2017 the driver was planning to take two Pakistani citizens from Minsk to Moscow. But when he saw that they had no Russian visas, he agreed to take them to the Dubrouna district close to the border.

“The passengers paid the driver 1,000 dollars, part of which the taxi driver sent by bank transfer to the organizer in Ukraine as was previously agreed,” the Border Committee reported.

The foreigners arrived in Belarus on legal grounds, having received an invitation to study at the Agricultural University of Hrodna in 2016. But it later turned out that their main goal was to get to Germany, where the South Asians were going to travel illegally from the territory of Russia.

The taxi driver pleaded guilty. He was sentenced to 3 year imprisonment with confiscation of property.
