To stay in power, state leadership must return to roots

“Our government is forced to go back to its roots, even to stay in power, maintain their position, develop a core. For 20 years, authorities have been searching for ideology, including the Soviet past, but it is clear now that it is not working. You cannot get away from it, it is necessary to return to the roots,” said historian Viktor Yaumeyenka.

According to culturologist Iryna Shumskaya, most professional historians cannot present historical information in a popular way.

“In its current form, it is unlikely that there exists an antivirus from Russian propaganda. History is not some short period of time, but a centuries-old process. National history is the foundation upon which the nation matures. If society does not realize it, there is a risk for it to be assimilated.”

“Authorities do not prohibit many things. They cannot openly go over to our side. It is a rule of the game about receiving money from Russia,” added Viktar Yaumeyenka.
