“The Republic of Belarus strongly condemns the strike inflicted on the territory of the Syrian Arab Republic on 14 April 2018.

Thus the situation in Syria has actually transformed into inter-state armed conflict, which is rich in further uncontrolled escalation that goes beyond the region.

We call on all involved parties to immediately cease the use of military force against other States and to seek ways to resolve the conflict by peaceful means at the negotiating table.

The use of prohibited weapons of mass destruction must not remain without consequences. However, the reciprocal steps must be based on unambiguous and verified facts and be taken in strict conformity with international law. None of these criteria have been fulfilled by those who today launched a strike at Syria.

Organization for the Prohibition of Chemical Weapons should be able to immediately check the information on the use of chemical weapons in Syria and to report on the results of the investigation at the UN Security Council.

We believe that all members of the UN Security Council should make every effort to fulfill their task to restore the international peace and security imposed on them by the international community. “
