‘Preventing illegal arms flow from Ukraine’: Lukashenka to strengthen southern border

Belarus has to strengthen its southern borders, president Alyaksandr Lukashenka said at Tuesday’s meeting with Acting State Secretary of the Security Council Stanislau Zas and Defense Minister Andrei Raukou.

The top officials informed Lukashenka about the state of affairs in the Belarusian army, primarily at the southern border.

Too much has been talked about the matter recently and the ‘so-called opposition mass media’ presented some facts with a ‘bias’, the head of state believes.

“Nevertheless, we don’t conceal the fact that we have to strengthen the southern borders. Not because we fear Ukrainians or an assault by anyone. We would like to prevent all kinds of things that Belarus doesn’t need and particularly weapons from reaching the country due to Ukrainian events. This concern should always be in our minds. It is a matter we have to handle. No one else will do the job for us,” state-run news agency BelTA quotes Lukashenka as saying.

In addition, Zas and Raukou made a report on progress in optimizing the Belarusian army to the Belarusian leader who is very interested in the creation of new weapons and new kinds of armaments in Belarus.
