Opposition leader Statkevich detained and sentenced to 5 days of arrest


The opposition politician made robbed of the opportunity to take part in the May 1st rally. Earlier, he urged Belarusians to join it.

Mikalai Statkevich is in the Minsk temporary detention center in Akrestsina Street. Yesterday, he was arrested and sentenced to 5 days of administrative arrest. This information was reported by his wife Maryna Adamovich, who had received it from the representative of the Leninsky district police department of Minsk.

Despite mass arrests and the aggressive actions of the authorities, Mikola Statkevich urged people not to stop the protests and join the peaceful rally on May 1 and Victory Day, “to put flowers together with the veterans in the hope that Belarus will be liberated once again”. The opposition politician passed a statement to the Minsk city executive committee, which nnounced the meeting on Kastrychnitskaya Square on May 1st.
