“I have lost everything – my only child ,” said the father of the late Vera Lebedz. The man said that his daughter was raped and murdered, then a car accident was staged to cover up the murder.
The reportage “No statute of limitations” of the series “Without retouch” is an attempt to determine the real circumstances of the mysterious death of the 16-year-old Vera Lebedz. The girl was killed in 2000 in a car accident near Mir. Her father, Mikalai Lebedz, is convinced that his only daughter was raped and murdered, and the accident on the road was simply staged.
The man believes that the prosecutors office and the police were in cahoots, tests results were falsified, and the case was “swept under the rug.” Mr. Lebedz several times turned to the head of Belarus Alyaksandr Lukashenko with request to assist in the investigation, but to no avail.
“What should I fear?” said Mikalai. “I’m fighting for my child whom I lost and who was everything to me…She was raped, killed … I’ll never forgive that. What kind of president is he, if I turned to him 12 times, but found no help. My child died for nothing, my future is in the grave. But for some reason they still walk free. Such people should be outlawed. What is the difference – 25 years old or 45 years old man? He murdered a 16-year-old child.”
On August 29, 2014 the State Committee of Forensic Examination set the order of the paid checks on the appeals of citizens. Despite this, the Salihorsk district police department refused to hold re-examination on a fee basis of the underwear and the skirt of late Vera Lebedz.
