Minsk: Searches of activists’, journos’ and environmentalists’ places


The Minsk police started searching activists’, journos’ and environmentalists’ places on Tuesday morning.

They are still in progress. Computers, equipment, books, things with symbols are being seized.

At about 7 am, the police and persons carrying balaclavas entered the flats of human rights activist Anisya Kazlyuk and independent journalist Maryna Kastylyanchanka. The searches are being conducted in relation to the criminal case initiated on July 28 at Ivatsevichy where youngsters burned a billboard of the Ministry of Internal Affairs.

Now searches are also taking place at environmental activists’. A minivan without numbers, but with the words ‘I respect the rules of the road’ on the number plates is standing near their house.

It is still unknown whether someone has been detained.
