Lukashenka: 'Tajiks are our brothers'. In addition to Russians, Ukrainians

Belarusian President Alyaksandr Lukashenka met with Tajik President Emomali Rahmon on Monday.

Belarus is ready to help Tajikistan at any time, Lukashenka stressed at the meeting.

“We are ready to cooperate in all areas. We are always ready to do everything we can for our Tajik brothers,” he said.

“I know that you put tremendous efforts into ensuring security in the region. It is difficult to accomplish yet you courageously fight for peace and tranquility in your country <…> You are our blood brothers and naturally we should do everything to make your people feel secure,” state-owned news agency BelTA quotes the Belarusian leader as saying.

In his turn, Emomali Rahmon expressed hope for ‘raising the level of versatile mutually beneficial cooperation’.

It is commonly known that Russians are ‘brothers No 1’ for Lukashenka who often demonstrates his loyalty to the eastern neighbour.

But Ukrainians have also been ranked among the Top 10 brothers of Belarusians.

“This country [ukraine] is ours, its people are our people, they are our brothers. And I should say that the Ukrainian nation does not deserve all that is now happening to Ukraine and the Ukrainian people,” Lukashenka said at the meeting of the Security Council in 2014.
