Loss-making enterprises: one in four in construction and one in three in industry

Within five months of 2015, the loss-making enterprises in Belarus lost 12.2 trillion rubles ($800.69 million).

This is the data from a new report by the National Statistics Committee. According to it, the share of unprofitable enterprises in the period from January to May 2015 was 21.3%. In particular, the share of agricultural enterprises was 13% (in the same period last year – 7.5%) in the health sector and social services – 17% (6.4%), in industry – 31.8% ( 27% last year), or almost every third company.

While in construction the share of unprofitable enterprises was 24.4% (12%) – which means that in this area every fourth company incurs losses.

In such a situation, many businesses cannot pay their employees on time. As Belsat reported recently, almost a hundred thousand Belarusians did not receive wages on time in June.
