Local deputies elections: Opposition politician reports abuse in Minsk

Anatol Lyabedzka, Head of the United CivicParty, has filmed seven women who were taken in a minibus to a polling station in Minsk on the second day of early voting.

The polling station is located in School No.34 in Minsk.

The politician suspects the authorities of organising the so-called merry-go-round voting, when a group of people visits several polling station and cast ballots at each of them, which may contribute to the victory of a pro-government candidate.

When the women spotted Lyabedzka filming them, they started to leave.

“Ladies, why are you leaving in a group? Are you driven from one station to another? who is responsible for that?” he asked.

However, his questions remained unanswered. The woman were worriead about being recorded. Some of them managed to vote.

According to the Central Election Commission, 11% of electors have given their votes over the two days of early voting.

The election to the local councils of deputies is scheduled for February, 18. More than 18,000 deputies of local councils are to be elected in Belarus af about 22,200 candidates. Early voting kicked off in Belarus on February, 13. There might be many rigged votes and violations from Tuesday till Saturday, independent observers warn.
