Lithuania accuses Belarus of airspace violation


The Lithuanian Air Force  recorded a Lithuanian airspace violation by a civilian An-2 aircraft that twice crossed into the country’s airspace on Wednesday.

The Lithuanian Ministry of Defense states that it was a Belarusian civilian aircraft that violated the country’s airspace.

“On June 21 the Lithuanian Air Force recorded two breaches of state border of the Republic of Lithuania in national airspace near Dubičiai and Musteika (Varėna district). One An-2 civilian aircraft flew into Lithuanian airspace twice as recorded, at 02.03-02-17 p.m. and 02-14-02-17 p.m. Lithuanian time. The violation has been recorded on airspace surveillance equipment and observed visually,” the MoD website says.

The State Border Guard Service began pre-trial investigation on illegal crossing of state border.

In connection with the incident, a note is to be handed to the Chargé d’Affaires of Belarus in Lithuania, DELFI reports.

The Belarusian Ministry of Transport and Communications claims it has not received official information about the situation.
